Academies, has changed the name of its School of The Entrepreneur at Culver Academies to The Ron Rubin School for the Entrepreneur following the support of 1968 alum Ron Rubin, a entrepreneur himself, who has been supporting the school annually during its first three years. The Medical College of Wisconsin (Milwaukee), $2.25 million from the National Institutes of Health to study genetic factors that impact severity of cystic fibrosis (CF). Ohio Wesleyan University (Delaware, Ohio), $1.5 million from an anonymous former student to establish the Charles M. Weis Professorship in English to honor the former English professor. Saginaw Valley State University (University Center, Mich.), $199,997 from the Michigan Department of Labor & Economic Growth for the Regional Entrepreneurial Collaborative Project. Also, $158,750 from the Michigan Manufacturing Technology Center in support of the Center's Northeast Office at SVSU; $82,817 from the National Institutes of Health for the project Viscoelastic Model for Lung Parenchyma for Multi-scale Modeling to create elastic and viscoelastic material models to describe healthy lung tissue; $64,643 for SVSU's Nurse Faculty Loan Program and $33,553 for Graduate Nursing Program Traineeships from the U.S. Department of Health and Human services; $63,825 from the U.S. Department of Education to support the Off-Campus Community Service Program that provides off-campus federal work-study positions for SVSU students; $62,182, followed by an additional ARRA grant of $40,784, from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services for SVSU's Scholarships for Disadvantaged Nursing Students program; $50,000 from the U.S. Department of Energy to analyze methods to convert commercial energy crops into hydrogen and ethanol; $20,000 from the U.S. Department of Energy to support "Development of a High Strength, High Fatigue Wind Blade Spars"; $17,150 from Michigan Campus Compact to support the SVSU College Coaching Corps Program that will assist area students in the transition from high school to college; $13,584 from Michigan Campus Compact to support the Michigan Service Scholars AmeriCorps Program that will provide 12 students with the opportunity to be involved in service-learning and civic engagement activities; $6,634 from the Michigan Supreme Court to analyze data to determine the benefits of adopting a restorative justice process for middle school students; $5,000 from Midland Area Community Foundation and $5,000 from Bay Area Community Foundation to support an exhibition by Charles McGee, Michigan sculptor, at the Marshall M. Fredericks Sculpture Museum. St. Norbert College, De Pere, Wis., $7 million from the Michels family to transform the school's Sensenbrenner Memorial Union into a state-of-the-art commons and dining facility. Also, $1 million to create the Ariens Family Welcome Center for prospective students and their families. Saint Xavier University (Chicago), $750,000 over three years from the Big Shoulders Fund through the CME Group Foundation's Early Math Education Initiative to help low-income children in Chicago's parochial schools become proficient at math at the appropriate developmental level. Also, $246,489 from the Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA) to support technology and distance education equipment for graduate nursing programs.
