Research, Relationship Management and Leadership Gifts in Campaigns
Successful major gift fundraising begins with meaningful information (research), continues with effective relationship building (cultivation) and results in gifts when the right ask occurs (solicitation). Designed with both researchers and front-line fundraisers in mind, this workshop will focus on keys to seeking and closing leadership gifts in a campaign. With 92 percent of campaign funds donated by the top 10 percent of donors, fundraisers must concentrate their efforts effectively.
Diane Crane, campaign director at the University of North Texas, draws from her experiences as a researcher, a consultant and a front-line fundraiser in this workshop. Begin by examining the elements in a prospect profile that have the greatest impact on securing leadership gifts and how staff can use that research to develop effective cultivation/solicitation strategies. She’ll use case studies to illustrate the concepts and small-group exercises to practice and refine those concepts.
The workshop also will address the relationship management cycle from identification to stewardship and discuss how to implement best practices to support staff in moving prospects through the cycle. We will conclude with a review of how campaign gift pyramids are built and how they serve as a valuable tool throughout a campaign.
About Diane Crane, Campaign Director, University of North Texas Prior to her role at UNT, Crane was the director of prospect research at UNT, a partner at the fundraising consulting firm Bentz Whaley Flessner and vice president of development at Cook Children’s Health Foundation.
